Bred in Fort Mill, SC, by Ed Currie, the Carolina Reaper earned the "World's Hottest Pepper" title from the Guinness Book of World Records in 2017. With an average of 1,641,000 Scoville heat units (SHU), it has rightfully earned its title; for comparison, a jalapeño tops out at a measly 8,000 SHU.
Ed Currie's story is an amazing one; he didn't set out to breed the world's hottest pepper, and his interest in spicy peppers was just a hobby until his wife convinced him to make a business of it. After nearly a decade of breeding, and many unsuccesful attempts, Ed Currie arrived at what we now know as the Carolina Reaper: the Hottest Pepper in the World. Currently, Puckerbutt Pepper Company is the largest organic pepper farm in the United States.
Apis Mercantile is proud to combine our South Carolina certified Wildflower honey and Ed Currie's Carolina Reaper to make our Hot Honey! It packs a punch! Enjoy!
